Community Center Committee

Minutes of the Community Center Committee meeting February 1, 2008

Chairman Jo Schmidt called the meeting to order at 1 PM.

Members in attendance: Jo Schmidt, Rich Lazanov, Kurt Schaffert, Bob Gilbert, Bill Smith and Tom Bruns.  Also attending were Toni Brown, BOD President and Committee Liaison and Ann Jones, Activities Director. 

This was a special meeting called for the discussion of options to replace flooring in rooms 1, 2 & 3, damaged by water in the sprinkler incidents.   Don Horan submitted an email to the members making the points that we shouldn’t be rushed into a decision and should seek competitive bids, opinions that the committee share and agree with. 

It was decided to get recommendations and bids for carpet and wood laminate.  Jo arranged to have Carpet One come to the center Monday 2/4 at 9:30.  He will also contact Fairfax Floor and Carpet.  Kurt will check with commercial suppliers and installers.  Bob will contact an associate in the field for ideas and suggestions. 

Ann furnished a list of windows to perform work in the center with minimal disruption to activities and rentals.  She will continue to update the list. 

There was a discussion of possible causes and remedies.  While no conclusions were made, it was decided that Jo would ask Sylva to contact Armstrong to recommend a independent contractor to evaluate our heating and air conditioning system and location of sprinkler heads.  Kurt will develop a list of questions for East Coast to respond to. 

It was noted that the committee should capture 2009 budget items by June in order for recommendations to be made to the Finance Committee with sufficient leadtime.

Our next regularly scheduled meeting is Friday February 15, 2008 at 1 PM.
