FALLS RUN COMMUNITY CENTER COMMITTEE MEETING
FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 1 PM by Chairman, Jo Schmidt. Members present were Mary Owens, Tom Bruns, Art Gabler and Jackie Richards. Also present were BoD members Don Horan, Dan Owens, and Tom Whalen, Property Manager, Debbie Sutton, Activities Director, Ann Jones, Shirley Sommer, Joan Bitely, and Mike Woods.
At the request of the FRCA BoD, the committee reviewed the swimming pool rules. Resident Mike Woods addressed the committee with his concerns and experiences.
After a lengthy discussion, a recommendation to the board will be to change the rules to state: “Each household may have eight guests that can be any combination of adults or children, but guests must be accompanied by at least one resident. For every two children in the pool there must be one adult supervising who is capable of swimming.” The committee also agreed that the ages of children allowed to use the pool under these rules should be age 3 (fully toilet trained) to age 17 (age 18 being considered an adult).
Jo requested that a “Request for Action” be sent to the BoD for the purchase of a rowing machine. George Malhiot will be contacted and charged with this task (approximate cost $1260).
Ann Jones discussed the urgent need for presentation equipment for the community center. Several items needed were a projector, screen, easel and possibly a laptop. Board members agreed that the screen and easel may be purchased with maintenance funds. The projector will require a “Request for Purchase” (approx. $1200). The laptop is a questionable purchase due to possibility of theft, discussion postponed.
Jo asked the committee to be prepared for 2010 budget requests by the next meeting.
Shirley Sommer gave an in depth report on estimates for the tennis court resurfacing with various types of resurfacing ranging in price from $14,900 to $36,000. (copy of estimates attached in FRCCC minutes book). A request for action to go to the BoD.
Dan reported on the estimates for the indoor swimming pool resurfacing. Estimates
range from $2200 for sanding, scraping, and painting (2 yr. life); acrylic coating
$12,000 (10 yr. life); epoxy $15,000 (20 yr life/maintenance free). Dan and Kurt will work up an analysis and request for action for the BoD.
Debbie stated that the estimate for the separation of light switches in the billiard/card room is $420. Jo requested a request for action be submitted to the BoD.
Don Horan stated that the thermostats for the community center should be set for the summer at no higher than 74 degrees. The committee agreed. Jo said that he will be reprogramming the thermostat. He is also writing simple instructions for the concierge’s use so that they can change the temperature if needed.
Ann is continuing to request bids for the member card project using various methods.
Jo stated that Danny O’Toole has rewired the two new flood lights in the pool so that they come on in emergencies due to outages.
Jo announced his resignation as chairman of the Community Center Committee effective June 1. After the formal meeting, he thanked the committee members for their cooperation and service under his tenure.
The meeting adjourned at 3 PM.
