Committee Reports
Roads, Sidewalks, Mailboxes:
· Yearly sidewalk inspections and repairs may affect insurance costs.
· Sylva will give Mason and Mason our sidewalk defects list to be considered in the study for the Replacement Reserve Fund.
SWM Ponds:
· It is still not clear what work is required for Pond 5. This committee and the Board are looking to Del Webb and Pulte to restore the pond to acceptable condition.
· Pond 4A should be worked on soon by Farrar. Per the County, the cattails will remain and the 4 trees along the top of the dam will be removed and relocated to the other side of the pond.
Grounds:
· Section I has been inspected by the County and is ready to have its bond released.
· Section II is undergoing final inspection by the County. Its bond will be released also. The bond for pond 4A in Section II is separate and will not be released until all the work at the pond is completed and County requirements are met.
· The spring flower proposal will be presented to the Board later this year. Seasonal flowers are included in the 2007 budget, and the Board should be able to give us an ok to have Shenandoah proceed with the spring planting at the appropriate time. We will use a red, white and blue color theme to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Virginia. Flowers will be planted in the large blue pots in the outdoor pool area. Frank Burroughs has offered to keep the pots watered through the summer.
· Sylva will follow-up with Shenandoah on the contract that the Board approved in November. This contract is for removal of the dead shrubs/trees in the common area, and to restore the sites to mulch or seed/sod.
· Budget for 2007 Landscaping/Grounds/Maintenance -- $30,000
Seasonal flowers $12,000
Watering $11,000
Garden Club $1,000
Street washing $1,000
Clean SWM ponds $2,000
Clean storm run-off drains $2,000
Extra $1,000
Farrar Progress:
· Work on the retaining walls continues. Most of the testing has been done. Weep holes will now be drilled where needed. Cracks in the walls will be patched.
Master Plan:
· The Board has asked the committee to come up with a Master Plan for the common grounds.
· Janie Cindric suggested the following:
Concentrate on the entrances and large grassy open spaces.
Once bonds are released, begin landscaping around the SWM ponds.
Use plants and trees that are native to the area.
Let some areas return to a more natural setting.
Larry Wiltshire from Shenandoah will work with Janie and the Planting
and Design Committee to help establish a Master Plan.
Next meeting:
· Thursday, February 8, 2007, 1:00pm, at the Community Center.
