FALLS RUN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION INC.
Minutes of the Property & Grounds Committee Meeting
10 November 2011
The meeting convened at 1:00pm in Conference Room 2 of the Community Center.
Members present: Tom Whalen, Ken Burke, Chuck Heath, Cindy Horan. Also present were Ted Wessel, Falls Run General Manager, and Dot Foster, FRCA Board Liaison.
Old Business:
1. Erosion control behind 118 Smithfield: The remediation work has been completed by the contractor who did a good job of repairing damage done in the common area used to approach the work site.
2. Damage from Hurricane Irene and windstorms: Immediate actions have been completed and all downed trees removed. Replacement trees have not yet been planted. Ted Wessel is handling this aspect.
3. Need to survey community for major tree work for 2012: The committee recommended to Ted Wessel that Bartlett Tree Service be contracted to survey the community in the spring of 2012 as this has not been done since 2009. The Chair noted that funds for this purpose had been approved in the 2012 budget.
4. Seasonal flowers: The committee discussed possible changes to the current mix of annuals and perennials without reaching any conclusions.
5. SOW – new landscaping maintenance contract: Chuck Heath indicated that the draft would be ready for review at the December meeting.
New Business:
1. New Charter & Mission Statement for the committee: Tom Whalen indicated that contrary to expectations, he has not seen either a final draft or a finished directive. Ted Wessel stated that minor revisions were still being made to all of the committee charters but should be done by 1 December.
2. Koi Pond – 32 Smithfield: The resident indicated earlier the previous week that her koi were dying and inquired about pesticide use by the landscaping contractor. Ted Wessel determined that no pesticides had been applied in the area and so notified the resident.
The meeting adjourned at 2:15pm.
