Travel Committee Minutes; Meeting 12/16/2011

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 by Sandy Gaudet.  Members present were Sandy Gaudet, Al Venit, Ann Jones, Carolyn Crosen, Joan Leavitt, Sharon Hilgert, Bob Gilbert and Suzie Mills.  

General Discussions

Each member of the travel committee was given time for a farewell to Ann Jones.    Sharon Hilgert, representing the Travel Committee on the AD HOC Search Committee, updated us on the activities director replacement search.

Reports on Trips taken since last meeting:

The trip to Biltmore/Ashville was very successful and everyone was delighted with the trip.  A problem with the bus was encountered but was resolved with very little delay in the timing of the trip. Fifty residents enjoyed the trip to Ford Theater to see “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.  All who went said it was exceptional and were very happy with the trip.  Sixty residents attended the “White Christmas” program at the Riverside.

Updates on upcoming 2011-2012 trips:

The play “La Cage Aux Folles” at the Kennedy Center and the Moscow Royal Ballet performance of “Sleeping Beauty” were cancelled due to low numbers.  The trip to Charlestown, and “Fiddler on the Roof” at Riverside are ready to go.

Future Planning:

2012 planning calendar is being finalized and it will be included in the January, 2012 Gazette.

The planned February 24 – March 2, 2013 Winter Getaway and is a cruise around Hawaii.  Signups have begun.

Information on the Collette trip, Trains of the Colorado Rockies (August 24 – September 1, 2012) will be presented on January 26, 2012.  The Grand Circle Christmas Markets Cruise dates          have been set for November 27, 2012 thru December 8, 2012 and signups are underway.

March 16 Celtic Nights has sold out (2 buses, 100 residents).  Planning is underway for an April trip to the Franciscan Monastery/Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.

The meeting was adjourned at 1 PM.  The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday January 25, 2012 at 11:00.
