Travel Committee Minutes; Meeting 1/25/2012

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 by Sandy Gaudet.  Members present were Sandy Gaudet, Al Venit, Doreen Barnes, Carolyn Crosen, Joan Leavitt, Sharon Hilgert and Suzie Mills.  

General Discussions

Discussions were held on the new duties (agenda and minutes on the FRCA website) and rotation of the Travel Committee Chair.  It was determined that each January we would revisit replacing the Chair.  At this time, Sandy Gaudet will remain our leader.

Also, talks were held on the role of the concierge and AD regarding support for the Travel Committee.  AD will attend travel meetings, assist with planning, direct the concierge on duty regarding support, and handle financial issues.

Sharon gave us a report on the newly formed Long Term Planning Group that will facilitate better planning over several years at a time.

Reports on Trips taken since last meeting:

The trip to Charlestown was very successful.  All who went enjoyed the day.  65 residents were very delighted with the play “Fiddler on the Roof” at Riverside.

Updates on upcoming 2012 trips:

2012 planning calendar was included in the January Gazette.  It will continue to be on the FRCA website and updated as needed.

Information on the Collette trip, Trains of the Colorado Rockies (August 24 – September 1, 2012) will be presented on January 26, 2012. 

March 16 Celtic Nights has sold out (2 buses, 100 residents).

The May 9-10 trip to Lancaster to see “Jonah” has sold out.

The Grand Circle Christmas Markets Cruise dates have been set for November 27, 2012 thru December 8, 2012 and there are still a few staterooms available.

The planned February 24 – March 2, 2013 Winter Getaway cruise (Hawaii) signups continue.  The dates have changed and all who have signed up will be shifted to the new dates.  Omega will notify all involved.

Future Planning:

Planning is underway for an April trip to the Franciscan Monastery/Shrine of the Immaculate     Conception in Washington D.C.  Sign up will begin March 2.

A Washington National vs. Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game is planned for May 17.

A meeting on the Scandinavia/Russian cruise is planned for February 21.

The meeting was adjourned at 1 PM.  The next meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 11:00.
